You can't blame your parents, your childhood, your teachers, that heartbreak, your boss, your financial advisor, your spouse, the weather, or even the person who rear-ended you on the way to work. T


he only person you can blame is the one in the mirror—you, and only you. Since the day you turned 18, every decision you've made led you to where you are today.


Breaking Free from the Past

Your past, including your childhood, only affects you today if you allow it to. It only has power over you if you give it that power.


If you're stuck in the past or constantly blaming it for your present, you're stuck in a victim mentality that won't let you break free from an average life.

Well, I do. I've walked in similar shoes. I've been in an abusive marriage, abandoned by someone I loved, and faced traumatic experiences. I had to work three jobs as a young single mother just to get by.


But I realized that things didn't happen to me; they happened because of me. That shift in perspective was my turning point.

How you respond to the events in your life is what determines the quality of your life today. You can choose to be a hostage to your past or stand up and say, "No more excuses! I'll take personal responsibility for my life and make better choices."
